Pursuant to OLF’s Press Statement dated September 13, 2020 that called for the establishment of  a Transitional government in Oromia as well as Ethiopia, we, members of the OLF Leadership, Officials and Representatives of the various OLF International chapters held a consultative meeting on September 27, 2020 to discuss the details. After thorough deliberation and critical analysis of our vanguard organization’s decision to take the lead in putting a peaceful transitional arrangement together in the country, we have issued a nine-point resolution in support of this historical and timely call to, practically, ensue soon.

Following some promising changes that took place within the ruling EPRDF coalition in the Spring of 2018, the OLF has relentlessly worked with the Ethiopian government for the full fruition of the democratic transition. Despite incessant intimidations and hostilities towards OLF rank and file by members of the incumbent regime, our organization has immensely contributed to the concerted effort so that peace & stability could reign in Oromia and Ethiopia. Unfortunately, the much sang for democratic transition and some petty reforms could not go forwarded as many hoped for. The enthusiasm for a peaceful transition is now dashed due to destructive measures taken by members of the unruly demagogues within the ruling so called prosperity party and their collaborators, the nostalgic old guard that has long been craving for the restoration of the old imperial order in Ethiopia.  With the almost aborted democratic reforms, we have come to recognize that the entire country is at a critical juncture as the incumbent regime’s mandate to rule the country is about to run out in less than two weeks. The struggle of oromo freedom has been led to many years, the problem of the government of the government has come to pass and the problems of the government, and those who live to protect their interests have reached today. In hard condition and hardship, the big sacrifice paid for the victory is still unpunished. In 1991-1992, we believe that our people are going to be a reason for oromo and oromia today. We believe that our people have got his struggle to lead his struggle. In 27 years, the struggle of the people has been strong, the government of the government has not been accepted for the world. The government has been able to make the government new in it. The government has been created by the government of the people and the plan of the freedom struggle. The change of respect has been hoped that ′′ expanding democracy field is the answer to the people’s question ′′ But, the body of ‘ change ‘ leader ‘ has been killed from day to day to day, killing and prison, political parties have been killed from the move, the media has been killed by the hope of the nation of this country and the walk of democracy has reached today. የውይይቱ መጀመር ያለ ቢሆንም፡ ትላንት በተካሄደውና ኦነግ ባልተካፈለበት መድረክ ላይ መቋጫ ላይ
የተደረሰ ስምምነት በሚል ኦነግ በመድረኩ ላይ እንደነበረ በማስመሰል የወጣው መግለጫ ድርጅታችንን

Press release – Qeerroo: Oromo Youth Movement for Freedom

Since their subjugation fall under the Ethiopian empire about 150 years ago, the Oromo people are waging a liberation struggle to regain their freedom back and build its nation. To this day the Oromo continue to suffer under the most barbaric and cruel government system of the empire. To regain its freedom and bring an end to its suffering, the Oromo people have rallied behind the Oromo liberation struggle, spear headed by the OLF, and have fought the colonizers for over a century. Though the challenges are immense, and the terrains our struggle walked through are extremely steep, the OLF has managed to overcome them all patiently and unflinchingly to bring our struggle these far. During this long journey to freedom, the Oromo people have rallied behind OLF a just cause. They never waged their struggle for the sake of supporting individuals OLF leaders or to protect them from any political adversaries. The Oromo people rallied behind OLF and its leaders for their selfless commitment to the struggle, unwavering stand, perseverance, and willingness to abide to the rules and regulation of the organization.
Over decades of bitter struggle, the OLF has had brave and unflinching leaders, but also cowards and sellouts who betrayed the people and joined the oppressors. This is what we faced today at this juncture of our history. The Oromo people have never and will never be shaken by of the departure of some purposeless traitors from the leadership of the Front. The Oromo Liberation Front passionately believes that sustainable and permanent solution to Ethiopia’s complex political problems could only be attained with an All-Inclusive democracy and participation of all political forces. To this effect, OLF had been working with various political forces including those in power of ruling the country and opposition groups to create a national consensus to solve the political crises in Ethiopia. Since, the OLF moved its leadership to the country on 15th September 2018 it committed itself to work with honesty and integrity for the success of the peace process that lead to inclusive true democracy.

Although OLF was not happy on how the transition to democracy in Ethiopia was handled by PM Abiy Ahmed’s government from the very beginning, we patiently dealt with the situations with the hope that it would be improved; but not without price.     However, the Political reform started in 2018 have faced huge challenges both internally within the ruling party as well as externally with the opposition groups.
