Qeerroo pro-democracy movement for freedom has spread out in Oromia; the Oromo youth in Nedjo Wallaga province stepped up the movement for freedom and democracy. On August 03, 2011, leaflets and other written documents, with a cite note recognising the life of Oromo which is deprived or swindled by the TPLF government become distributed and widespread in the city and rural areas of Nedjo. The document also makes reference about the escalated movement of Qeerroo National Youth Movement for Freedom and Democracy. The youth has organised themselves in groups and distributed the documents in all key areas, including hotels and government’s offices in the district.

The distributed documents have cited three main issues regarding the contemporary life tendencies in Oromia. These are: 1) taxation burden and the largest galloping inflation which is putting pressures on Oromo people, coerce pressure on poor Oromo farmers through unfair land use policy, the looting strategy of TPLF regime in Oromia, etc. 2) Issues about Oromo Liberation Front (OLF), 3) Issues about the objectives and strategies of Qeerroo National Youth Movement for Freedom and Democracy. Some of the main areas where all these documents posted and distributed include:

1. Markets and different shops
2. Yerosan Hotel
3. Tirunesh Hotel
4. Wakwayya Hotel
5. L/Colonel Abdissa Aga School
6. Private and Public Colleges
7. Public bus station in the city
8. Post Office
9. Government Offices
10. Commercial Bank
11. Private residence areas

As a reason of the widespread post and distribution of these written documents, the TPLF militias, cadres and securities ruined the normal people’s activity by closing many public pedestrian paths as well as roads in the city. On top of that, the securities went to different hotels and private residences and caused instabilities. They chased out and arrested many Oromo youths, workers and farmers. The in and out movement to the city has also been destructed by the control of government securities. Intense control has been set out in order to check youths and other peoples coming in to the city.

Because of internet connection problem we couldn’t be able to upload pictures taken while securities chasing people and causing instabilities, and we took pictures also when the public gathered together and read the distributed and posted documents. We promise to upload them in the future.

The whereabouts of many Oromo students from the different universities, who have joined their families in the summer break, are unknown. The intensified pro-democracy Qeerroo National Youth Movement for Freedom and Democracy has caused massive frustration in the TPLF government. Since April 15, 2011, the TPLF government’s security has imprisoned, tortured, poisoned and gunned many Oromo university students. Others have fled from their home land because of the persevered interrogation and torment. The TPLF government has invested huge resources to enhance the interrogation techniques or set of alternatives to bring down the activism of pro-democracy Qeerroo university students. Here are some of the reported lists of Oromo university students whose their whereabouts are unknown:

The families of these students are appealing to the government to release the students from where they are trapped in. In many parts of Oromia, pro-democracy Qeerroo National Youth Movement for Freedom and Democracy has also urging the government to releases the students.

With the opening of the Department of Afaan Oromoo at Mekele University, OPDO ‘the puppet of TPLF’ have been praising the Habesha as if they are helping to smooth the development of Afaan Oromoo. Apparently, the OPDO do not understand the unconcealed long term strategy of the Habesha once their ‘belly and pockets are overflowing.’ However, there will be no doubt that the OPDO will face the same fate that Dr Negaso Gidada has experienced while he was with them.

The central long term agenda of opening Department of Afaan Oromoo at Mekele University is to educate Tigray youths Afaan Oromo, so that they will work in Oromia region, and to assign them in OPDO organisation and in other ‘key’ offices. As top secret information coming out of TPLF government, currently 80% of Tigray born students graduated with Afaan Oromoo are working in Oromia region particularly in OPDO offices. This justifies the strategic plan why Mekele University has took firm stand on implementing  long-term plan to favour Tigray youths to study Afaan Oromoo.

When Meles Zenawi attended the celebration of the opening of the Department of Afaan Oromoo at Mekele University, Juneydin Saddo has been queried by Oromo students at Adama. Juneydin mentioned “the training of Tigray youth in Afaan Oromoo will help the development of Oromia and he said students who oppose government’s plan will be convicted.” As one of the higher officials of the puppet organisation, Juneydin with his colleagues are working towards the achievement of TPLF’s long term plan. The TPLF government are best known with their strategy of de-escalating Oromo elites by killing and putting them in prison; there are vast number of Qeerroo pro democracy Oromo students whose whereabouts are unknown. Currently, almost all business man and woman are the Habesha, Tigre and the Amhara. The Oromia region’s huge public and private resources are being sold out to the Tigray people. The Habesha people’s strategy has always been to weaken the Oromo youth and own all the resources of Oromia. Many Oromo people believed and thought the Qeerroo pro democracy Oromo youth should further intensify the struggle against the Habesha people’s strategy of owning Oromia.

Currently many OPDO members and Oromo workers in Oromia region have been accused of alleged corruption and made redundant of their jobs. This an alleged propaganda that TPLF government is implementing in order to favour Tigray youth who have trained in Afaan Oromoo to get job opportunities in Oromia region. The OPDO are still not taking any action to safeguard Oromo and Oromia. However, they OPDO themselves are also the victims of the TPLF long term agenda. Few months ago, 160 Oromo OPDO members and workers has been laid off and sustained in prison because of the reason of an alleged corruption and rent seeking accusations. As a result, about 200 Afaan Oromo trained Tigray youths have been appointed in many Oromia key positions. These key positions are in offices like Oromia Land Administration, Oromia Inland Revenue, Oromia Investment Commission, Oromia Education Bureau, etc.

Wayyane-Ethiopian government has handed 20 Oromo civilians to the government federal court in alleged charges. These civilians were accused of an alleged suspicious with OLF membership and the reason of “conspiracy to combat against EPRDF Ethiopia’s government.” The wayyane-Ethiopian government prosecutor opened court file (No 555/03) under the name of Getinet Gemechu.  These accusations are based on the ‘anti-terrorist law’ under number 329(1) A, 38(1) and 24 which was created and fashioned by the TPLF government to accuse and lay blame on opposition parties like Oromo Liberation Front. The news regarding this court hearing was broadcasted on July 22^nd 2011 on ‘Bariisaa’ news letter and other private gazettes.

The alleged verdicts opened on these civilians were the following:

1^st – Membership with anti-government political organisations, Oromo Liberation Front

2^nd – Organising and mobilising members under the OLF

3^rd – Information exchange with the OLF

4^th – Supporting OLF with material and financial matters

5^th – Collaborating with the OLF who has an “objective to threat the wayyane-Ethiopian government.”

The civilians presented their defensive statements to the court through their solicitor. However, the prosecutor alleged the statement was wrong and bucked up the judge to hand sentence on these civilians. The Ethiopian government prosecutor labelled this alleged accusation as “high level crime.”

Listening to both parties on July 22^nd 2011, the judge at the federal court has agreed to take appointment for further investigation. Off the hearing of the day, one of the civilians has been released from prison by free pardon on November 6, 2008. Hence, the judge understood this individual will not be accused twice on the same charges he was accused for. The judge believed and decided all the documents related to the free pardon of this individual’s case must be presented to the court on the next appointment. The other individual has also been released free from prison previously by the Oromia Supreme Court. As the judgment by Oromia Supreme Court was made by Oromo language, the judge believed and decided the documents of his decision by Oromia Supreme Court must be translated to Amharic and presented to the court on the next appointment. The judge has scheduled the next appointment on August 4^th 2011.

In addition, in many remote Oromia places where we couldn’t reach for the reports, there are vast number of Oromo farmers, workers and youths being taken to prison by TPLF securities. The activists of Qeerroo pro-democracy Oromo youths, farmers and workers intensified in all Oromia places. This intensified movement has distraught the wayyane-Ethiopian government.

The struggle shall continue! The oppressor will fall!
