(Qeerroo News, 11 April 2011) The Woyane Federal police have beeen firing live ammunition on about 400 unarmed and peaceful Oromo students of Mizan Tepi University injuring several students and arresting several others a report we received on April 08, 2011 revealed.
According to Qeerroo News reporter, the exact number of students injured and arrested by the Woyane police is unknown.
However, the latest update we received today April 10, 2011 revealed that 114 Oromo students, injured by live ammunition have been admitted to Mizan Tepi hospital and many others who were not taken to hospital are suffering in individual houses without any medical attention.
The updated report we received today added that more than 50 other Oromo students have been abducted and their whereabouts are unknown.
Oromo students in the area are appealing to all humanitarian, governmental and non-governmental organizations to follow the whereabouts of those abducted and also to save the lives of those left without medical attention.
Here is a brief chronology of events unfolding in Mizan Tepi University. On April 4, 2011 evening the rumor that Oromo students are going to lit a revolt in the university was spread and a large number of Federal Police was deployed and was firing heavy equipments throughout the night, presumably to scare of the students.
In connection with this the Tigrean students of the university were organized and started a (pro-government) rally insulting the Oromo students and the entire Oromo people.
The provoked Oromo students made everything possible to destabilize the conflict and the tension peacefully, but without success.The conflict was intensified until the so called Federal Police sided with Tigrean students and rained live ammunition on Oromo students.
That evening the deployed Federal Police picked up at least 50 [only] Oromo students from their dormitories, put them on big military trucks and have taken them away and their whereabouts are unknown.
Currently the telephone communication to the area is down and Qeerroo News reporter is unable to get more detail information about the incident.
