Statement of Oromo Officers working in various departments of Ethiopian Government

(Qeerroo News, Finfinnee, 18 May 2011) We, Oromo officers working at different capacities in a range of service departments of the Ethiopian government: security, army, regional and federal police forces and the court system, have held a meeting today, May 07-2011 in Adama town. Following thorough discussion on the present situation of our people and country, we unanimously passed the following resolution.

  1. Whereas the political activities, violation of human rights, oppression and suppression of democratic rights of citizens, systematic exploitation of Oromia’s resources, etc. of Oromia and other regions of the country by the Ethiopian government, leading to further devastation, and our region’s political situation turned into more and more volatile situation; whereas we have tirelessly made an effort in numerous ways to restore democracy, justice and fairness, however, our attempts were dashed, and no progressive outcome were achieved. Therefore, we stand on the side of our people and country and  demand the government that the multi-faceted questions raised by the National Youth Movement get positive response  immediately.
  2. It is undeniable fact that Mallas Zenawi himself, during his early rebellion years has struggled for the secession of Tigrai from Ethiopia. On the contrary, it is sad to see that after he came to power and controlled the entire country, is harassing, massively detaining, torturing, and killing the Oromo youth and the entire Oromo population for raising the same question of freedom he himself raised during his young age. We demand that the Ethiopian government take responsibility for the lives lost, physical and psychological damaged incurred on Oromo students and openly apologize to their families. We will take this opportunity to publicly apologize to the Oromo youth and entire Oromo nation for the damage we incurred by being an instrument of this regime. We promise to pay back the damage we incurred by struggling being on the side of the National Youth Movement.
  3. Whereas those capitulated themselves to the Ethiopian government, by betraying Oromo Liberation Front, (OLF), are freely moving everywhere and speaking on the media freely, the government instead is harassing children of oppressed people who do not carry any weapon other than pen and pencil simply because they are born Oromo and therefore suspected by the regime of being a member or supporter of OLF. This makes us to believe that the complex political situation in Ethiopia in general and the Oromo situation in particular can not be resolved without freedom. In line with this we are detrmined to stand on the side of the Oromo youth to bring about a fundamental change in Oromia and in Ethiopia.
  4. Whereas the government armed forces stormed the University of Mizen Teppi and injured more than 120 Oromo students in April, and those injured were unable to get medical treatment and have been denied access or visit by their families and relatives; whereas such inhuman act vividly proves denial of  their inalienable natural right of Oromo people as a nation in their county and land; we strongly request the Ethiopian government to release those detained immediately compensate the students for the damaged incurred and publicly make an apology statement to their families.

No more silence! We no longer keep quiet while we look injustice happening in front of our eyes, while we hear the cries of our citizens with our own ears.

 Freedom Prevails!

  1. Thank you for speaking out the truth. This is the time to stand against persicution of Oromo people, particularily Oromo student. Wayanee is systematically working to destroy the best and the brightest mind in Oromia so that they will not have leadership. So, this is the time to stand with our childeren and say NO to wayanee. If we stand together no one dare to kill our children.

  2. If the above resolution is really from the Oromo officers working at different capacities in a range of service departments of the Ethiopian government: security, army, regional and federal police forces and the court system,Oromia and her children are free from the TPLF or Malasa’s colony within a minute automatically!!!
If so change overnight comes mean that.

  4. MELES is a hypocrite; He fought for the Tigraian liberation at the begining… Now he is in power, he is killing anyone who mentions the word liberation..It is time all Oromos rise up and liberate Oromia from the Habashas rule for once and all..

  5. If it is true it is the right thing to do.But statement must be supported by action. You have every thing in your hands except power that you deligated it to Meles Zenawi who historically anti Oromoo since his Wengate days as a student. On this, let alone the Oromoos every one in that Country whom their Democratic Rights have been violated are with you.Free yourself from being covered by the shadow of Wayane.Let the real Democracy Ring from every corner of Ethiopia.

  6. Oromos living in Oromia, who are under the massive subjugation of Waayyannee, must coordinate their struggle to bring down Meles and his ruling. You and only you(Oromos living in Oromia) can liberate your country. Don’t even think to wait for the selfish, unrealistic and Opportunistics Diaspora.

  7. We Oromo how can we liberate? We are a tree of the empare country, so we have to try to hold possition and change the name Ethiopia to OROMIA as it is, then if they want late the small branches, like Tigiry and others be lioberated.
    Thank you!

  8. Your independence and self determination for an Oromia state for the Oromos is your right. You should fight for it and never give up on the struggle. Otherwise you will be oppressed and forced to learn a lanuage none of the 30 millions Oromos can not even speak -Habahi Amhara

This is an injustice, and you should fight to last drop of your blood until your country and land is liberated- like the people of Republic of Ireland.

  9. Is it true? That is really nice. since u have seen most of ur colleagues who had served melese were thrown to prison or disgraced publicly. Do not forget that what you have been doing on oromo in general and oromo youth in particular will knock the door of each of you may be through your children since they are also oromo youth.
