January 17, 2012 (Qeerroo)
The students’ demonstration in Haromaya, Adama, Wollega and other Universities are quickly spreading to secondary school students in different part of Oromiya. These students are raising serious demands of rule of law, democracy; land right, regional security and safety of students staging for their constitutional right.
According to Qeerroo informants, the students are battling with police and the situation is growing by the day. On the 13 of January 2012 in the Eastern Wollega zone, students of Limmu Galiila secondary School have staged peaceful demonstration. Some of their demands include
- Give legitimate answer to the demand of University Students
- Accusation, imprisonment, exiling and mistreatment of Oromo nationalists should stop
- Stop evicting Oromo farmers, provide them with a means to prosper themselves
- Stop stirring conflict between centuries old friends and neighbors of the Oromo and Gumuz nation and others.
Shocked by the situation, the security people are randomly imprisoning and threatening the civilian population, while the special police force were doubled and security was biffed up in the town.
In similar news, Hagamsa secondary school students have reportedly staged their own demonstration on the 12 of January 2012 demand the realization of self determination according to the constitution of the country. The police attempt to control the situation failed after the students tried to protect themselves with stones. It is reported that the school is still closed for similar reason. The demands raised by students in Naqamte Preparatory school and Gidda Ayana secondary school are still unanswered after a full day demonstration was held on the 11TH of January 2012.
While the unity and the perseverance of Wollega University students are still continuing, more than 60 students are known to have been kidnapped. On another incident, students named Tolasa Urgi from English department was saved by the friends and committed Qeerroo network members while some of the security members tried to kidnap him. After all the options and amazed by the firm stand of the brave students, the Woyane official are sending out Elders of the City for reconciliation.
The struggle shall continue!!!
