  8. Today, I learned that the refugees in El Sedir and Choucha are under attack by Tunisian military. WE NEED NATO’s involvement

    As of 10 minutes ago, there were at least 20 people killed (Sudan possibly Darfur) in the camp by the military. Many were injured including Oromo refugees (stab wonds). My contact was assisting wounder Oromo. He also informed me that the UNHCR is not present possibly due to the violence that started yesterday.

    All this is after someone burned 21 refugee tents killing 4 Eritreans.

    For any agrarian society the issues of land and water are issues of life or death the Oromo society is no exception. Today large part of ancestral Oromo land is being sold away to Chinese, Arab and Indian companies by greedy Tigrayan elite. Evicted from their land, Oromos are being turned to modern day serfs or day laborers, if they are lucky one must add. Like they have done during the time of Emperor Haile Sellassie, there is no doubt Oromos today are willing to sacrifice their lives to keep their ancestral land and to ensure their societal survival. All they need is a visionary leadership that is capable of taking advantage of the situation and gear the popular struggle to victory. As such, the ongoing land grab is a blessing in disguise for those struggling to replace Tigrayan hegemony with a democratic system wherein the people are empowered to choose and shape their destiny. Qeerroo Oromoo is well poised to provide the needed visionary leadership. Towards that end the following action items need to be undertaken.
    (1) Oromos in every corner of the globe should be made aware of what is being done to Oromo land and who is doing it. (2) Every Oromo must understand that the very survival of Oromo society is at stake and everyone should contribute their share to change the situation. (3) Every means of communication must be used to explain this to the vast Oromo population. (4) Grassroots organizations must be formed in every corner of Oromia to bring the ongoing land grab policy to an end. (5) At the international level Oromo leadership must warn the Indian, Chinese and Arab governments that they should end the policy or prepare to face severe consequences arising from popular resistance to the policy. (6) And finally, there are many international organizations in the west that are willing to render their support for those trying to stop the transnational land grab by greedy companies and governments and Oromo leadership should actively seek and foster relationship with them.

    ——-Oromian Sovereignity: Neither Amhara’s Style nor Tigrean Type, but Possibly Eritrean Way——–

    According to the nowadays ongoing discussion in the Oromo nationalists’ circle, the three possible forms of walabummaa Oromiya (the three types of sovereignities for Oromia) in the forms of the Amhara’s style, the Tigrean type and the Eritrean way are not as such bad for the Oromo people in the future, but preferable are the suggested three Oromian options (independence, autonomy and integration). The Amhara’s style is an ‘assimilative Oromia’ having a free development and use of Afaan Oromo at a federal level, as well as making the cushitic Ethiopia being the same as the sovereign republic of Oromia, which will assimilate the other neighbouring language groups into being Oromo, thus practically Oromia = Ethiopia. This dictatorial assimilative approach must be distinguished from the democratic integrative option of the Oromo way. The Tigrean type is an ‘imperious Oromia’, the Oromo people having an independent Oromia and at the same time ruling over the other nations. Such imperious rule is also not the same to the democratic autonomy, to the other Oromian option. The Eritrean way is an ‘independent Oromia’ as a separate nation-state, free from the other nations; this Eritrean way is similar to one of the three Oromian options.

    All these three approaches, which can be now persued by the OLF and the Oromo people, if we want, are not as such disadvantageous for Oromia, so that we necessarily ought not be fixated on only the option of “separation”. That is why the endless cry of the Woyane cadres, who do lament day and night singing about their claim to “know the fact” that OLF is a “secessionist” organization and their accusing the Oromo nationalists as “separatists”, doesn’t hold water. On the contrary, the gadaa people with our principle of freedom and democracy do prefer the Oromian methods leading us to our desired sovereignity. Firstly, we want to give a chance to an ‘integrative Oromia’ (‘a democratic Oromian-Ethiopia’); secondly we opt to an ‘autonomous Oromia’ within a cushitic Ethiopian union, which can only serve as a transitional solution towards the desired integration; and only if these two noble Oromo’s choices of an ‘integration in a form of Oromian-Ethiopia’ or an ‘autonomy within a union’ fail to be materialized, due to the possible arrogance and the authoritarian nature of the Abyssinian elites, the Oromo people will be obliged to move towards the choice of ‘an independence without a union’.

    As far as the Oromo people and our liberation front (OLF) are concerned, even we can try to promote the type of unity, which the “pro-unity” Amhara forces want to realize. But, these Amhara forces need to be sure that the language into which we all need to melt will be the two Afaan Oromo’s, that means not only Amharinya, but also Oromiffa. Now, the OLF seems to support this view, hoping that the “pro-unity” Amhara forces do agree with this way of solving the language issue. Amharinya was in reality created by the Oromo nobility in the year 1270 around Hanko-bar in central Oromia. The Oromo nobility just wanted to have a language, which is different from that of the ordinary Oromo, thus created “lisane negus”, the Amharinya. Now, both Amharinya and Oromiffa are suggested to be considered as Afaan Oromo (as the language of the Oromo people). Sure is that Oromiffa is the language of the Oromo heroes, who did start the liberation struggle of the Oromo people from the Abyssinized rulers of the Agew and the Oromo, whereas Amharinya is unfortunately still associated with the domination and subjugation of the gadaa people by this Abyssinized part of the Cush nations.

    This theory now seems to be entertained by the recent Oromo liberation movement. By the way, is Nagaasso Gidadaa’s UDJ party not one of those with the mentality of this generation? When we look at the program of the party, its §3.2.4 says: “Amharic shall serve as a working language of the federal state; when approved by a referendum, there can be another language, in addition to Amharic, that serves as a working language of the federal state.” Why not referendum on Amharinya, whereas it is compulsarily needed to allow Oromiffa to have the same status? Is this not a double standard? Why did Obbo Nagaasso and the other Oromo nationalists in this party fail to put Oromiffa as one of the federal working languages explicitly, just as they did to Amharinya? Are they not making the same mistake commited by Emperor Minilik Caalaa and his best general Gobanaa Daacee? Both of these nobilities being Oromo (the first an Abyssinized Oromo, the second a non-Abyssinized), they could have promoted Oromiffa to be the working language of the Ethiopian empire they built, instead of making their “lisane negus” the only one used officially in the empire.

    Now, the Oromo liberation movment should take heed of the Habesha organizations, who want to repeat the same mistake. No other move, except the following three ways of the OLF movements, is acceptable to the Oromo people: the first-generation OLF, which concentrates on achieving only an ‘independent Oromia’, as a fair goal without influencing other nations; the second-generation OLF talking about either an ‘independent Oromia’ or an ‘autonomous Oromia’; and the third-generation OLF being more inclusive and open for an ‘independent Oromia’, for an ‘autonomous Oromia’ and for an ‘integrative Oromia’. I think these three options of our future walabummaa are not bad, but the question lies on the timing of stressing one of the alternatives vis a vis the other two. Clear is that any nation under oppression and with a threatened security prefers and stresses ‘independence’, whereas the nation, which does have a confidence to survive, to thrive and who even is sure to be able to rule over other nations do emphasize the other two alternatives (‘autonomy’ and ‘integration’).

    We may then ask: which position should the Oromo people, who are still under the colony and domination need to emphasize now? Surely, we need to stress an ‘independence’, just as the first-generation OLF correctly did and is still doing. Even though it is not bad that the second-generation accepted a possible ‘autonomy’ as an option and the third-generation now started to further entertain even the third alternative of ‘integrative’ Oromia, the smart side of all the three generations is that they never gave up and will never give up the ‘independence’ option. As long as the Oromo people are under oppression, the question for an ‘independence’ is mandatory and a must. But care must be taken for this position is used by the Woyane cadres as a means to neutralize the “pro-unity” Amhara forces, who are also nowadays the archenemies of the Woyane. Clearly, Woyane regime is surviving and thriving by making these Amhara forces and the pro-independence Oromo fronts neutralize each other. Thus, it is better to tone down the ‘independence’ rhetoric and emphasize the ‘integration’ option.

    As repeatedly mentioned, the common denominator of the three OLF generations is ‘bilisummaa Oromoo’, which is good. The first-generation is for bilisummaa Oromoo + walabummaa Oromiya (in a form of an ‘independent Oromia’). The second-generation for bilisummaa + walabummaa (in a form of an ‘independent Oromia’ or in a form of a ‘union of autonomous nations’). The third-generation is for bilisummaa + walabummaa (in a form of an ‘independent Oromia’ or in a form of a ‘union of autonomous nations’ or in a form of ‘cushitic Ethiopia = republic Oromia’). As I do see, we are moving from the occupied Oromia of the subjugated Oromo people —– through the smallest OPDO’s Oromia —– through the smaller OLF-SG’s Oromia —— through the small OLF-QC’s Oromia —— to the great Oromia (either Oromia extending from Hashange to Lamu or the republic Oromia = the cushitic Ethiopia) with a respected bilisummaa and a realized walabummaa of the Oromo people.

    When we look at such theoretical options and moves, the Oromo people are actually in a very advantageous position regarding the possible three future outcomes of the political struggle in the present Ethiopia. The three outcomes are a ‘disintegrated Ethiopia’ resulting in multiple independent nation-states including an independent gadaa republic of Oromia, a ‘federated Ethiopia’ like it is now under the Woyane (just changing its fake status quo to the true federation) and a ‘transformed Ethiopia’ from its present Abyssinized nature (Ethiopia with Oromo oppression and Habesha domination) to the cushitic Ethiopia (Ethiopia with freedom for all citizens and nations). The Oromo nationalists can use these three options to our advantage for all of the three options are not against the required bilisummaa of the Oromo people. The Amhara elites are limited to the third option in which they think Amharinya will be the only federal language of all in Ethiopia, so that they do hate the second option and do fear the first option, because the first and second options do limit this opportunity of expansion for Amharinya. The Tegaru elites can use the second option as long as they do dominate the Ethiopian politics and they surely will opt to the first option in case they start to lose their domination, but they will never be able to exploit the third option for it will not give them the opportunity to dominate over the other nations in the future cushitic Ethiopia.

    Interestingly, we can see that the first-generation OLF is shooting against the Woyane forces from only one position (from the position of an ‘independent Oromia’); the second-generation from two positions (from the position of an ‘independent Oromia’ and from the position of a ’union of autonomous nations’) and the third-generation from three positions (from the position of an ‘independent Oromia’, from the position of a ‘union of autonomous nations’ and from the position of an integrated cushitic Ethiopia). Furthermore, we do also observe the clear supportive position of all the three generations for an independent Oromia; yet, all Oromo nationalists of these three generations just should take care not to play into the hands of the Woyane cadres, who also sing continuously “supporting” the unconditional independence of Oromia. The motive of these cadres is not hard to understand. They want to antagonize the Oromo movement for liberation with the pro-democracy movement of the Amhara people. We should try to kill this divide and rule machination of the Woyane. Otherwise, the third-generation OLF with an additional vision of transforming the Abyssinian-Ethiopia (the hitherto Ethiopia characterized by oppression, hunger, exploitation, tyranny und torture) to the Oromian-Ethiopia (to the cushitic Ethiopia of liberty, freedom, democracy and autonomy of nations) is really great. The Oromo liberation struggle has already compelled the Abyssinian elites to sing about these values of the Oromian-Ethiopia, the values which are actually against their own culture and nature. Thus, the anti-thesis of Obbo Boruu Barraaqaa’s Abyssinian-Ethiopia ( http://gadaa.com/oduu/10224/2011/07/26/ … -ethiopia/ ) is this suggested Oromian-Ethiopia.

    We like it or not, Ethiopia can never be back to the past Amhara dominated empire and keeping the status quo of the Tigrean domination sustainably is also not an easy job. Slowly but surely, the empire was changing because of the pressure from the Oromo liberation movement and it will continue to be changed from the Abyssinian-Ethiopia to the Oromian-Ethiopia. It is up to us, the Oromo people, to choose which form of Oromia to have in the future: OPDO’s map, OLF-SG’s, OLF-QC’s, the present Ethiopia being transformed to Oromia or the future Oromia’s map being the same to that of the cushitic Ethiopia? The idea of the second-generation OLF in thinking about the second type of sovereignity (autonomous Oromia) as another way of Oromo’s walabummaa, which is alternative to the original goal (independent Oromia) was very disappointing for the first-generation OLF and its supporters. In the mean time, this second option seems to have been accepted by many Oromo nationalists, as long as the Oromo public will decide in the future per referendum. Now the third alternative sovereignity (integrative Oromia), which is now entertained by the third-generation OLF seems to be very “disgusting” not only for the first generation, but also for the second-generation. It may take a long time till Oromo nationalists of these two generations will start to realize that the Oromo people, as a majority in the region, will have no disadvantage in all the three types of sovereignities, if really the future politics of the region will be that of freedom and democracy. Fortunately, the world is developing and moving in this direction of politics; the Horn of Africa can not be exceptional.

    The hitherto main mistakes done by both the Amhara elites and the Oromo elites, so that Woyane could beat them turn by turn, are the facts that the Amhara elites still think as if they are in control of the Finfinne palace and as if they do have the political domination demanding from the Oromo elites to give up the agenda of “Oromian separation” as a precondition to an all-inclusive alliance. The Oromo elites, on the other hand, think as if we have less power and influence, compared to the Amhara elites, so that we still fear the comeback of the old “era of darkness”. Woyane cadres know this falacy of both elite groups and play with their emotion in order to polarize the opposition camp. The recent move of the OLF to correct this faults is an indication of a growing Oromo self-confidence to tackle such empasse and make a difference not only in Oromia, but in the whole Ethiopia/the Horn, that is why it is a nice step. Of course, this will be fruitful only if the effort towards the third alternative of walabummaa (integrative Oromia) is going to be seen on the real ground. A move in this direction is yet more of a theory rather than being the ongoing practice; nevertheless, I think the plan of an Oromian-Ethiopia (Ethiopia being transformed into Oromia) is a best vision and it will be a possible reality in the future. Only if the Abyssinian elites and their Western handlers try to hinder the realization of this vision, then either ‘Oromian autonomy within Ethiopian union’ or ‘Oromian independence within African union’ are the other options we need to strive for. The truth in general is that in all these three ways of achieving Oromo’s sovereignity, the hitherto oppresed Oromo people will have nothing to lose in the future.

    What we can’t deny is that there are considerable number of Oromo nationals supporting either of the three types of sovereignities (either independence or autonomy or integration) and none of these three groups do prefer ‘garbummaa Oromoo’ to ‘bilisummaa Oromoo’. Thus ‘bilisummaa Oromoo’ is a common denominator for these three political views in the Oromo community. Even though they do have this same stand on bilisummaa, they do differ on the type of walabummaa Oromia they want to realize. The difference is based on the version of the Oromo history each generation does have in mind and based on the personal life experiences of their respective members. If the OLF manages to accomodate these three sections of the Oromo society (the pro-independence, the pro-autonomy and the pro-integration section), it can then surely be pragmatic, inclusive and smart. Bilisummaa Oromoo from the garbummaa under the Abyssinian system of colonization or domination is unconditional; but the types of walabummaa Oromiya, which we as a nation want to realize, be it an ‘independent Oromia within African union’, or an ‘autonomous Oromia within Ethiopian union’ or an ‘integrative Oromia by transforming the Abyssinian-Ethiopia of a dictatorship to the Oromian-Ethiopia of a democracy’ can be conditional, which depends on the future referendum of the Oromo public.

    Now, the best way to attack and defeat Woyane (who is using the two cards of either ‘imperious Tigrai’ or ‘independent Tigrai’) is that the OLF better concentrate on the third alternative, on an ‘integrative Oromia’, rather than on only an ‘independent Oromia’ and an ‘autonomous Oromia’, these two methods (independence and autonomy) being theoretically the same ideology to that of the Woyane, who in reality currently excercises an ‘imperious position’. Fortunately, Woyane can never use the card of an ‘integration’ for it is a reperesentative of the minority nation in the Ethiopian empire. Thus, according to the opinion given in this essay, an ‘independent Oromia’ (the Eritrean style sovereignity) is not the only type of sovereignity for the Oromo and Oromia, the people and the land who are at the center and the core of the politics in the region/in the empire. An ‘autonomous Oromia’ and an ‘integrative Oromia’ are also the other advantageous ways of securing Oromo’s bilisummaa and Oromia’s walabumma. Otherwise, we do see that the Amhara elites have only one political card (the card of integration) to play; the Tegaru elites have only two cards (the cards of ‘imperious Tigrai’ and ‘independent Tigrai’); but the Oromo nationalists have three cards, the cards of an ‘independent Oromia’, an ‘autonomous Oromia’ and an ‘integrative Oromia’ to play. Time will show us whether our Oromo politicians are smart and wise to use these three cards to the advantage of the Oromo people and to the interest of the Oromo land (Oromia).

    As far as I am concerned, so long the Oromo people are under colonial oppression, we should fight for an independent Oromia without giving in and giving up. But Oromia and the Oromo are neither geographical periphery nor demographical minority, like Eritrea and the South Sudan were/are, in order to opt for a separation as the only best remedy. An ‘integrative Oromia’ (transforming the Abyssinian-Ethiopia to the Oromian-Ethiopia) can also be the very good version of our walabummaa/sovereignity, of course an ‘autonomous Oromia’ being a temporary and transitional solution towards either an ‘idependent Oromia’ or an ‘integrative Oromia’, both as an alternative lasting solutions. So let’s Oromo nationals act as members of a nation with both geographically central position and demographical majority in the empire/region, believing in ourselves and being confident that we can change our present condition of a political minority to our legitimate status of a majority and convert our current situation of being in a political periphery towards becoming a political center. Woyane cadres, who continuously accuse Oromo liberation movement as a “separatist” movemnet should be told that it is illogical to talk about Finfinne’s “secession” from Meqelee, whereas the simple fact is that it is Meqelee, who will secede from Finfinne. Common sense tells us that the one who is a minority and at a periphery claims a secession from the nation at the center and a majority, not vice versa!

    —The Oromo Liberation Movement is Like a Fighter Jet Shooting From its Three Parts—

    There was a time, when the Oromo freedom fighters wanted to liberate the Oromo people from any sort of subjugation in Ethiopia without trying to demarcate a national area called Oromia; for instance, we can mention the movements like the Raayya Oromo revolt, the Bale Oromo resistance, the initiation of Maccaa Tulama association, the Oromo struggle led by ME’ISON and IC’AT as well as the formation of ENLF (Ethiopian National Liberation Front), which was the forerunner of the OLF. Also there was a situation, which helped the Oromo nationals think about the existence of an Oromo national area (Oromia) in the Ethiopian empire, but without an attempt to separate this area from Ethiopia, the empire, which some Oromo nationals think is build by the blood and bone of the Oromo people. Now we are in the era, when we started to think not only about the existence of the Oromo national area, but also about the necessity of liberating this region in a form of an independent Gadaa republic of Oromia. Yet, these three visions (no Oromia in Ethiopia, Oromia within Ethiopia, and an independent Oromia without Ethiopia) are still entertained in the Oromo society at large, the common denominator of the three movements being the struggle for an unconditional bilisummaa/freedom of the Oromo people from any sort of political domination, economic exploitation and cultural suppression.

    That is why I do now think that the Oromo liberation movement has got the left-wing, the middle-body and the right-wing as three parts shooting at the enemy. The left-wing wants to change the whole Ethiopia, name the country as Oromia and promote Afaan Oromo to a federal/national language of the country; the middle-body wants to liberate Oromia within Ethiopia and make it to be the leading nation-state of the whole country; and the right-wing wants to establish an independent Gadaa republic of Oromia, which will have the influential position in the whole region of the Horn of Africa. These three parts of the Oromo liberation movement are now trying to harmonize their move against our common current enemy, i.e against the fascist, Abyssianist and racist Woyane. Accordingly, we do now find the Oromo liberation movement in all the spectrum of the opposition parties and liberation fronts against the oppressive regime (in the left wing, like the Oromo nationalists, who are active in AEUP, EPPF, EPRP, G-7 and UDJ; in the middle body including those organized under OFDM, OLF-KY, OPC and UEDF of MEDREK; as well as in the right wing such as the freedom fighters in OLF-QC, ONLF, ULFO). Surprisingly the main body of the OLF (OLF-SG) seems to represent the whole Fighter jet coordinating, accomodating and cooperating with all the three parts. This reality persuades us to think that the Oromo liberation is inevitable and the possible future three types of our sovereignty are not as such disadvantageous for Oromia and the Oromo people; we can now fight together for our common freedom from the Abyssinianist elites’ system of domination and then choose one of the following styles/types of sovereignty:

    – the Hindi style: the Hindi people liberated all nations and nationalities in their region and named the whole country as India, made the Hindi language as the working language of the Indian federation and of course divided the national area of Hindi into multiple federal regions. Why not we, the Oromo people, liberate the whole nations and nationalities in the Ethiopian empire, call the whole country Oromia and promote Afaan Oromo to the working language of the federation, with the historical local Odaa’s of Oromia (Odaa-Bisil, -Bultum, -Garreess, -Makodi, -Nabee and -Roobaa) being the future separate federal regions of the country?

    – the English style: the English people liberated themselves from the 700 years rule of the Roman empire, forged England as an autonomous region and united it with the neighbouring others to form the british United Kingdom, they also made English language the working language of the Kingdom. Can’t Oromia being autonomous, free and independent from the alien forces be united with the neighbouring autonomous regions to forge the Cushitic Ethiopian union, similar to that of the british United Kingdom and promote Afaan Oromo to the working language of the union?

    – the Ruski style: the Russian elites dismantled the Soviet union and established the Russian federation, which uses the Russian national language, the federation which still does have an influence on its neighbouring nations, because of its economic and military strength. Does this way of dismantling the Ethiopian empire and fostering the highly wished independent Gadaa republic of Oromia to have a further influence over the other liberated neighbouring countries more advantageous than the first two types of sovereignty?

    Interestingly, the three Abyssinianst groups (the Amhara, Tigrai and Eritrean elites) have got only one option respectively in their political struggle: the Amhara elites still can only sing about the Hindi-style for they know that Amharinya has got the privilage to be the federal language of the empire; the Eritrean elites as a minority at the periphery were so insecure to live within Ethiopia so that they had only the alternative of separation (the Ruski-style); the Tigrean elites can neither have the language privilage to opt for the Hindi-style nor the capacity to live alone as an independent nation in order to choose the Ruski-style, so they do stick at the English-style. But the Oromo and Oromia, being the majority at the center, can play all the three cards (the Hindi-, English- and Ruski-style) as long as the rule of the game in the region will be freedom and democracy. So, let’s Oromo people use our advantage and struggle with all the pro-freedom and pro-democracy forces of the Empire against the Woyane to come to the position of voting for one of the three options we do have.

    As far as I am concerned, all the three ways are not harmful, but the decision must be made by the politically conscious Oromo polity and Oromo public per referendum, when the time comes. This short essay is a bitter pill I wanted to present to the Oromo foes, who are nowadays delighting by perceiving a division of the Oromo liberation vanguard (the OLF) into three. For their information, OLF has got in its pocket, from the very beginning, only one kaayyoo (goal) of bilisummaa/freedom, which at the same time can be interpreted as three kaayyoo’s of walabummaa (three types of sovereignty), and it plays with these three cards of walabummaa based on the objective reality it is in, i.e according to the “here and now” of the situations. Even though the one kaayyoo of bilisummaa is the Oromo national self-determination, the three interpretations of the kaayyoo of walabummaa are:

    – Oromian national independence within a regional union (internal self-determination of the nation),
    – Oromian national independence without a regional union (external self-determination of the Oromo), and
    – Oromian citizens’ Independence to have a referendum on this issue of ‘independence within a union’ Vs. ‘independence without a union’.

    We know that OLF permanently advocates for all the three: for the independence of Oromia, for the Oromos’ right to self-determination, and for the union of nations in the empire/region. It emphasizes one of these three interpretations according to the condition of the time (according to the Zeitgeist). Whenever Abyssinianist elites become arrogant and start to sing about the unconditional unity of their empire with suppression of Oromos’ national rights, it stresses the necessity of an independent republic of Oromia, of course undermining the possible union. The logic behind this position is that whenever there is suppression, there will be a move for separation. When some reasonable politicians from different nations in the empire start to recognize the God-given right of the great Oromo nation to self-determination, the OLF starts to play the card of self-determination, i.e an appropriate decision per referendum either for ‘independence within a union’ or ‘for independence without a union’. Now, the one structural OLF, which we Oromo nationals have believed to own, has been divided into three, each of the factions just taking as a goal one of the three interpretations of the kaayyoo regarding walabummaa of Oromia:

    – OLF1 of Ob. Daud appears to have the Oromo national self-determination as its goal (being open for both the ‘independence within a union’ and the ‘independence without a union’ as far as the Oromo majority will decide for one of the two).
    – OLF2 of Ob. Dhugaasaa seems to make no compromise on the ‘independence without a union’.
    – OLF3 of Gn. Kamal looks like having a decision, which favours the Oromian ‘independence within a union’ of nations in the empire/region so that it tries to seek a cooperation with the Oromo nationals in the ruling party, OPDO, and at the same time it strives for a possible alliance with the reasonable “pro unity and democratic” Habesha opposition forces.

    Anyways, a merdo (bad news) to the foes of the Oromo liberation movement is that the one/three OLF(s) will never give up the struggle for the right of the Oromo nation to self-determination until we, the Oromo people, become the determiners of our own destiny, be it within the Ethiopian union or without the union. Otherwise, let’s differentiate the ongoing rhetoric from the real conviction. We heared certain Oromo politicians talking about the “fact” that the Oromo people do not want “secession”. But, I do consider such talking about the Oromo wanting independence or not is a wrong generalization. One thing we need to know as a fact is that almost all Oromo politicians (including those who do make the above mentioned rhetoric), deep in their hearts, believe in the right of the Oromo nation to self-determination. This is the hallmark of Oromo nationalists and it is the aim of our mindset (that of our spiritual organization, the OLF). This mindset, the OLF, has got only one kaayyoo of bilisummaa with the three interpretations regarding walabummaa, but it also does persue three karaa’s (strategies) including the following respective three rhetorics serving the strategies:

    – OLF mindset in the rebel organizations like the ULFO has got an explicit rhetoric of self-determination, i.e in a form of a national independence, be it within or without a union, and it fights for this kaayyoo by all means,
    – OLF mindset in the opposition organizations like OFC has got the rhetoric of struggling for liberation in only the Ethiopian context, but it covertly struggles for the same kaayyoo of self-determination,
    – OLF mindset in the ruling organization, the OPDO, has got the rhetoric, which says: “we have already achieved the liberation”, but yet it also covertly pushes for the same and similar kaayyoo.

    So, our fellow Oromo nationals, let’s allow this mindset move to the kaayyoo of bilisummaa in all the three karaa’s, despite the rhetoric of some Oromo nationalists in the opposition and in the ruling Oromo organizations. Let our foes know exactly that despite the different rhetorics, the Oromo liberation movement can never be stopped till it achieves the kaayyoo of bilisummaa Oromo and walabummaa Oromia of any type. We only need to motivate ourselves just to make our respective rhetorics and to do our practice in the liberation movement on the karaa each of us chooses in order to come to the only one kaayyoo of self-determination. We have to forget the rhetoric of Oromo politicians in the ruling party and in the opposition parties, who are doing their talks under the gunpoint of Woyane (they are just denying the right of Oromo people to self-determination at gunpoint) and let’s strive to achieve our kaayyoo, which is already determined by our mindset lead by the OLF.

    I am personally against any sort of dictatorial unity, and I am a supporter of a possible union of independent nations in the empire/region based on the free will of the respective peoples. Any unity without Oromo’s public verdict will fail, take it only 1 year, about 10 years or as long as 100 years. That is why I do advocate for a lasting solution based on free will of all the stakeholders, instead of the temporary hoyaa-hoyee of unity as a wishy-washy solution. Some organizations seem to have chosen unconditional Ethiopian unity as a precondition for the alliance against Woyane, but the unity they do strive for will surely never last long, because it is not based on accepting the self-determination of peoples, but based on a predetermination of the future fate of peoples by only few elites. The future coming alliance against Woyane, which may be forged by the OLF et al must be based on a solid ground and must take the self-determination of nations, rather than the unconditional unity of the region/empire, as the precondition for an alliance.

    This way or that way, our foes need to know that, they can only manipulate and delay the realization of Oromo’s right to self-determination, but they can never hinder it. Oromo’s mindset is leading us to our only one kaayyoo, i.e to the self-determination of the Oromo people, however long it may take. Our enemies like it or not, in reality almost all Oromo nationalists are led in our liberation struggle by this mindset. That is why the International Crisis Group (ICG) wrote: “despite its organizational flaws and divisions, many ordinary Oromos retain an almost messianic belief in the OLF as the major nationalist organization”. So, I would like to say: long live the OLF as both a fighter jet and a trinity (the OLF with only one kaayyoo of self-determination, but with the three possible interpretations of walabuummaa to be achieved through the three karaa’s accompanied by the three rhetorics).

    Just regarding the Oromo nationals, who do prefer the Hindi- or the English-style of walabummaa, I personally can understand when some of them do refuse accepting the name Ethiopia as belonging to the Oromo people, but we need to dig deep to come to the facts that the name Ethiopia is not far from the history of the Oromo people in particular and from that of the Cush in general. To illustrate this fact with concrete example, who was the warrior named Abraham Ashine (the name Ashine has got a meaning in Afaan Oromo: ‘we have begotten a child’), the man who bravely conquered and ruled Yemen as the Cushitic Ethiopia used to include not only the areas in the north eastern Africa, but also some areas in Arabia? The issue of this hero, Abraham Ashine, must be researched and the role of the Oromo in ruling even Yemen must be rightly interpreted. Fact seems to show that the Yemenites themselves were/are Cushites and the tricolor of their flag shows it all. Simply put, the Oromo people can win only when we do understand our lost and real history. The Oromo people now fighting against our own history of the Cushites (Ethiopiawinet in its true sense) is not as such constructive. Even the Agew dynasty of Lalibela (Elalibela) was part of the Cushitic Oromo kingdom; also the Aksum history is not that of the “Semetic Tigreans” as usually told. Can we really find an ancient history that the Tigreans did build in Aksum, which is not part of the Cushitic Oromo civilization? We can further say that many parts of the Arabian history are based mainly on the Oromo’s culture, because of the fact that Abraham Ashine, the king who conquered and ruled Arabia seems to be an Oromo in particular and a Cushite in general. Interestingly, even the name of the continent Asia is said to be derived from this Oromo name Ashine, according to some recorded histories, legends or stories.

    The more we dig deep, the better we know our real history and the best we can be in a position to charter our future beneficial destiny. So let’s, Oromo nationalists, be sure that we are on the right line of understanding and interpreting our history and let’s look at the fact that not only an independent Oromia of the Ruski-style, but also an integrative Oromia in a form of either a Hindi-style or an English-style can be the right kaayyoo, for which we, the Oromo nationalists, can fight. In summary, we can be like a fighter jet shooting from its three parts to attack our main enemy, the oppressive Abyssinianist elites’ system of domination which acts against our Oromummaa by targetting specially Aadaa-, Afaan-, Biyya-, Alaabaa-, and Amanti-Oromo (Waaqeffanna). Now, the very concious harmonization of the three parts of our fighter jet in targetting our enemy in unison is the alpha and omega of the Oromo liberation movement in order to be successful in our struggle. As an effective and efficient symbol of this action in unity towards the common purpose of bilisummaa Oromoo in a form of self-determination, the Alaabaa of TQO (Tokkummaa Qabsaa’ota Oromoo), which I already proposed in my last two articles, is the neutral banner, behind which we all can rally. May Rabbi/Waaqa help us, all the Oromo nationalists, to cooperate with each other, to coordinate our efforts and to move in unison towards our kaayyoo of bilisummaa Oromoo and walabummaa Oromia. May HE bless Oromia and the Oromo people!
